Our Staff


Leighton House is a family run business with a huge family feel. It is staffed in accordance with the requirements of Care Quality Commission. In particular, we will ensure there will be suitably qualified, competent and experienced staff in sufficient numbers as is appropriate for the health and the welfare of the residents. Mr S. Paul Rose is the Managing Director and owner of the Company. Paul oversees the management of the home. He was a registered nurse and qualified in December 1976. Paul had 15 years nursing experience prior to taking over the management of Leighton House in November 1988. He was the Registered Manager of Leighton House for 5 years but now he employee's Ms Maggie Welsby who is the Manager. He has 29 years experience at running a Retirement Home and has over 41 years experience of caring for the needs of others. This is his only business interest. Paul has served in the community on an Independent Monitoring Board at a Local Prison, HMP Buckley Hall, Rochdale. He was appointed by the Home office, Secretary of State. And served for 7 years. In addition he has served in the past twice as chairman of the Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton Care Homes Association. Paul served in the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) for 17 years from 1971 to 1988 He served in military hospitals as a registered nurse all around the U.K. Germany and Hong Kong. He was Awarded an LSGC Medal for long service and good conduct and is an army veteran.

Our Staff

Mrs Fritzie Rose is a company director. Fritzie before becoming a director, worked in Leighton House as a full time member of staff. Over many years she worked as a care assistant, senior care assistant and a senior care officer running our evening shift. Fritzie has many years experience in caring for the needs of our clients and gained a N.V.Q Level 3 qualification in health and social care, as well as gaining many other qualifications. Fritzie is now assisting the Managing Director Mr Paul Rose in his duties in over seeing the needs of a busy care home. Ms Maggie Welsby is our Registered Manager, she has been the present manager since February 2013. Maggie Welsby has an NVQ level 4 qualifications in care and a Registered Managers Award. Prior to this Maggie was the registered manager in another home for 8 years. Maggie has previously worked at Leighton house and has returned bringing with her a lot of caring and management experience. Please do speak with Maggie if you want any advice or have any concerns. She will be happy to help you in any way she can. Maggie has over 26 years experience in caring for the Elderly. Ms Julie Hanon is our senior care manager, she has work experience in caring for frail elderly residents and residents suffering from dementia and other such ailments relating to old age. Julie has extensive experience and NVQ level 3 qualifications in health and social care and has been employed on evening duties and day and night duties. Julie has previously been employed as a Health Care Assistant, Senior Health Care Assistant, Senior Care Officer, and Care Manager, and acting deputy manager. Both Julie and Maggie will be happy to offer you help and advice at any time. Kim Henderson, a Senior care Officer was recently awarded the ‘Care Hero’s Award and Commendation’ for an outstanding performance during the Corona virus Pandemic. The certificate says it all.

Staff Training

O ur staff have regular training and updates on: Moving and Handling Fire Training First Aid Food Hygiene Health and Safety. Other courses include: NVQ 2, 3 & 4 Health & Social Care Infection Control Dispensing of medicines (Controlled Drugs). Care of Dementia Mental capacity and D.O.L.S. & Deprivation of Liberty safeguarding Equality and Diversity Dignity in care End of life care Managing Aggression Safe holding & Escorting M.U.S.T. - Malnutrition universal screening tool. All staff have regular appraisals, during which opportunities for further development and qualifications are discussed.
